POSITION SUMMARY
Assists Branch Lead or Senior Librarian with the day-to-day operation of the branch including circulation, reference, and material selection and processing, special programming, public computer assistance and outreach.
Position may constitute work at the Main Library in various departments and/or at a branch library.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Gives friendly and helpful service to library users.
Conducts circulation activity, entering data into computer, searching and checking customer files, including registering new patrons.
Checks library materials in and out using the library's automated library system.
Fills requests for reserved materials.
Performs miscellaneous material collection related duties as assigned.
Provides research assistance to patrons, helping them gain access to both manual and computer generated information.
Facilitate and present new and innovative programs to assigned demographic patron groups.
Provides patron training in the use of various technology and services provided by the library.
Provides reader advisory assistance to patrons as needed.
Performs a wide variety of routine clerical tasks including maintaining records and collecting and recording fines.
Attends training courses and undertakes special training activities as directed.
May represent the library at various promotional events and activities.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Services Coordinator, Director or other designated person.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May coordinate daily activities of library pages as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school (GED acceptable).
College level studies and proficient computer skills are required.
Experience working in a library is highly desired and comparable work experience required in lieu of an Associate's degree.
Knowledge, interest and appreciation of literature and other sources of information available at the library.
Willingness to further credentials by additional education and workshops.
Writing, reading, mathematical principles; proficient computer skills-Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook; exercise sound judgment and decision making in accordance with policies and procedures; ability to research and problem solve independently; knowledge of County operations and functions; ability to prioritize and time manage; handle stressful situations, provide effective and friendly customer service; support the County's mission and values; ability to think critically where necessary.
Knowledge or understanding of basic administrative tasks: operate standard office equipment; document management; prepare and maintain records, various correspondences and reports; answer general inquiries and refer as necessary; answer telephone calls, process mail, order supplies/equipment; prepare meeting agendas, attend meetings, record/transcribe/distribute minutes; entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic form with speed and accuracy; maintain calendars, arrange meetings, schedule rooms and equipment as necessary.
Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with management, co-workers and clients; obtain and communicate accurate information; apply common sense understanding to complex instructions and respond accordingly; communicate complex ideas through graphs, charts, presentations, reports or other professional correspondence.
